TMDL Supplemental Data Assessment Project
|Date||January 1999 - December 2001|
The Clean Water Act requires states to list water bodies that fail to meet water-quality standards. Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) have to be developed for these water-quality impaired water bodies. A TMDL represents the allowable load of a pollutant that a water body can receive without exceeding water-quality standards. For further information on TMDLs, please visit: http://www.kdhe.state.ks.us/tmdl/
KBS collected water-quality data from 42 streams (within the Lower Arkansas, Cottonwood, Neosho, Verdigris, Cimarron, and Walnut Basins) and 4 reservoirs (Pomona, John Redmond, Council Grove, and El Dorado Reservoirs) for possible use in developing TMDLs. Some assessed water-quality parameters included nutrients, chlorophyll a, herbicides, dissolved oxygen concentration, pH, total suspended solids, and bacteria.
This project was funded by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) under the TMDL Program.
Stream and lake sampling data for this project are available in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format. To view and/or download these data:
There are two printed reports available for download, highlighting some of the major findings on water quality of lakes and streams chosen for the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) project.
